This is the way my kitchen floor looked before I painted it, no matter what I did I could not get it clean, we bought the house 2 years ago and this is the original floor from the 70's...  There were stains, marks that were on that wouldnt come off no matter what I tried..

Ah, starting to look better,  one side almost done.... 

Much better,  used a tan colored paint, pounced in some white mixed with the tan,  then as a final added touch, dabbed it with a feather duster to give it more texture... and no,  enough, Im not putting the lines back in....    I filled little holes and now its just waiting for a couple final coats of varnish till its done...

Feels so clean now... hard to take pictures of floor,  but anyhow gives you the basic idea...  of course, now have to touch up all the baseboards....   

Budget floor,  I used Primer and mistints to redo my floor...
